Whale-watching in Bahia Banderas

Whales in Bahia Banderas

Head out into the Pacific ocean at Puerto Vallarta to spot families of humpback whales which breed in the bay.

The Pacific coast of Mexico comes alive between December and March with the graceful migration of humpback whales. During this period whales breed and calve in the sheltered tropical waters of Banderas Bay. Surfacing from the depths, these gentle giants and their offspring joyfully spout water into the air in a truly magical spectacle.

At the quay in Puerto Vallarta you’ll board a purpose-built whale watching boat. Qualified biologists accompanying the expedition will share their expert knowledge of the behaviour of these aquatic mammals, which communicate through plaintive song. With luck and a keen eye, you will witness the unforgettable: the splashing tails, fin-slapping and spouting blowholes of the sociable creatures. In spring, they migrate toward their feeding grounds further north, playing in the waves as they go.
