Overview
Despite lying almost 500km north of Guyana, St Lucia, with its jagged peaks, bird filled rainforests and idyllic beaches, combines perfectly with its fellow former British colony. A British Airways flight, which stops there en route to and from Georgetown, makes it a convenient Caribbean stopover.
Many visitors choose to spend their time on the island lazing on the beaches, but there are also plenty of opportunities to explore the island’s natural wonders. You can hike through the rainforest to bathe in refreshing waterfalls, go in search of some of the distinctive bird life or even climb the iconic peak of Gros Piton. There is also great snorkelling and scuba diving to be found, or you can take a boat trip to watch whales and dolphins (best June-November), or turtles (March-July). Culinary enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the Friday Fish Fry which happens weekly throughout the island.

The temperature in St Lucia is quite constant throughout the year, averaging 29-31C. The dry season is December to May and rainy season June to November. The hurricane season is August to October, which is also the wettest period. Christmas to Easter is high season with busier beaches and hotels.
