Estancia Rincon Chico is a homely lodge from where you can explore the Patagonian coast and discover its abundant wildlife.  

Rincon Chico is a cosy base from which to explore the Patagonian coast with its abundant wildlife and wild, rugged scenery. Set in a remote area, this family-run lodge is nevertheless just a couple of hours’ drive from regional airports. Previously the estancia reared cattle and sheep, but since 2017 it has been entirely dedicated to conservation, allowing the native wildlife to flourish, with rhea, skunks and guanacos roaming the grounds. The estancia is also rich in birdlife, with up to 120 species spotted including burrowing owls, kestrels and buzzard eagles.

The lodge has just eight simple yet comfortable bedrooms. There’s quite a bit of nostalgia in evidence throughout, with walls (and, it seems, all available nooks and crannies) adorned with books, old family relics and traditional farming implements. In harmony with the homely atmosphere afternoon tea is served daily, supplementing the rustic home-cooked meals. The attractive building has a veranda where you can relax or enjoy a drink while contemplating the flat pampa and vast Patagonian sky – sunrises are particularly beautiful here

The property includes 15km of fossil-lined private coastline and beaches upon which elephant seals and sea lions breed each year, and, according to season, southern right whales, penguins and killer whales loiter offshore. Survey them on guided nature walks, hikes and nature drives.
